K Shipbuilding named two Aframax oil tankers on the same day
On April 30th, a naming ceremony was held for two 115000 deadweight ton Aframax/LR2 oil tankers built by K Shipbuilding (formerly STX Shipbuilding Marine) for Greek shipowner Navios Partners. These two new ships were named "Nave Cosmos" and "Nave Polaris" respectively.
The construction contract for these two ships was signed in April 2022, with a total length of 250 meters, a width of 44 meters, and a depth of 21 meters. They are equipped with the K Smartship Solution independently developed by K Shipbuilding. This plan can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by continuously developing ship types and improving equipment fuel efficiency, providing support for safe and efficient operation of ships.
In addition, this type of ship is also equipped with a desulfurization device (Scrubber) and a selective catalytic reduction device (SCR), which can navigate in areas with sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide emission restrictions. At the same time, this type of ship also adopts a liquefied natural gas fuel reserve (LNG Ready) design.
For a long time, K Shipbuilding has been focusing on medium-sized oil tankers such as 50000 ton MR tankers and 115000 ton Aframax tankers as its main products. In recent years, in order to actively respond to the new environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and meet the global demand for environmentally friendly ships, K Shipbuilding has continuously invested in the development of environmentally friendly fuel powered ships such as LNG, liquid ammonia, and methanol based on its rich experience in building medium-sized oil tankers and delivery performance.
On April 26th this year, K Shipbuilding signed construction contracts with two overseas shipping companies for two 50000 deadweight ton MR type oil tankers and two 75000 deadweight ton LR1 type oil tankers.
Currently, Navios Partners owns and operates a fleet consisting of 80 dry bulk carriers, 47 container ships, and 53 oil tankers, including 16 new shipbuilding orders. It is reported that 10 Aframax/LR2 new ships will be delivered in 2024 and the first half of 2025, including the named "Nave Cosmos" and "Nave Polaris". The 6 newly built MR2 finished oil tankers leased under the light lease agreement will be delivered in the second half of 2025 and the first half of 2027. In addition, 12 newly built container ships (10 5300TEU and 2 7700TEU) will be delivered before the first half of 2025.
